3. Empathy

It is important for a support worker to show empathy with the client, which involves putting themselves in the client’s shoes through listening to their needs to understand how the client is feeling. This also shows that the support worker cares about the client, and will be able to form a trusting relationship with them.

4. Positivity

This involves the support worker encouraging and motivating the client to achieve their goals. Positivity also helps in improving the client’s confidence and self-esteem.

5. Respect

A good support worker is respectful towards their client, which involves treating their client as an equal, respecting their feelings and needs. It also includes asking the client’s what their goals and needs are and how they can assist them.
